Proper Methods of Template Use

The use of templates in the resurfacing industry has become increasingly popular. However, there are a number of different methods of achieving various textured finishes with PermaCrete. While the basics of using a template are fairly standard, each step is very important to a successful outcome.
  1. Before installing your template, be sure to apply a PermaSeal Stain Sealer (of the desired color) to the surface. This will help the template adhere to the surface and provide the grout line color that you desire
  2. Spread the template and be sure that it is layed evenly and flat on the surface. Be sure it has fully adhered.
  3. Hold the spray hopper approximately 10” to 12” from the surface and adjust the air pressure from low to high depending upon the type of desired texture: low air pressure for knockdown or lace texture, medium air pressure for orange peel texture, and high air pressure for a smooth tile finish. NOTE: Tip size also affects the texture coat. Refer to page 17 of the hopper gun manual for the tip pressure chart.
  4. Once the surface is dry, apply 2 coats of PermaSeal Stain Sealer (of the desired color) to the surface.
  5. Appropriate timing is critical for template removal. Be sure that the surface is dry, but don’t wait too long. If you want a clean grout line, the template must be removed when the PermaSeal is dry to the touch. The longer you wait, the rougher the edges will be when the template is removed.
Remember: The better your pattern, the more $$$ in your pocket and isn’t that why you’re a PermaCrete dealer!
